ORBITAL ASYMMETRIES (2023)

A multi-layered experience of dance, film, sound-making and projection to consider together our desires for both autonomy and community.

Over the course of 24 hours, four strangers journey together through intimacy, fatigue, play and isolation. They dance through the disorientation that emerges from collective identity, sometimes yielding and sometimes resisting. Presented by Rich Mix.

VELOCITIES (2021,2022,2023)

A new multi-stranded work currently in its third ACE-supported phase and preparing a touring-ready work in 2024.

This work delves into the experience of disorientation that occurs when individuals are asynchronous with their communities and the systems around them. In these explorations, we research how to build frameworks for moving together that enable us to be in both solidarity and in dissonance with one another. Our enquiry is multimodal; it happens both inside the studio and outside, with artists and community members.

E1: CHILDREN OF THE NEW EPOCH (2021)

Commissioned by Impermanence Dance for their new work DECADE ONLINE, this is a response to an article from The Tyro (1921), written by Wyndham Lewis. Lewis flirted with socialism, anarchism and early fascism, and in this piece wrote about the demarcation of a new era that was beginning after the first world war. 100 years on, another epoch is born.

RITUALS (2020)

Choreography for three films that consider the little actions we do to protect ourselves and our loved ones in a new context.

Commissioned by Public Health Liverpool and COoL (Open Culture/Homotopia) and directed by Tom Shennan.

AKADEMI HERITAGE (2020)

Two short documentary films using archival materials to unearth the history and politics of South Asian dance in its early years of arriving in the UK.

CREATIVE ROUGHS (2020)

An immersive creative challenge set in a co-working methodology.

1 week in lockdown, a daily creative challenge, any medium any process, 2 hours from idea to result, a random word to start, a friend for critical discussion.

NORTH (2019-20)

A performance work rooted strongly in classical Indian rhythms, but using a newly developed movement vocabulary, North uses precision to ignite chaos. Centrifugal and magnetic forces drive these bodies into prescribed circular trajectories, while they compete in an eternal struggle for control, surrender and revolt.

Created with the support of ReRooted Dance Collective, Arts Council England, Akademi, Pagrav Dance Company, Bloomsbury Festival and The Bhavan.

THIS JUNCTION (2017-8)

A solo choreography exploring the loss of individual agency in urban chaos.

Commissioned by Akademi and performed at Alchemy Festival - SouthBank Centre; Blue Cloud Festival - Blue Elephant Theatre; Next Choreography Festival - Siobhan Davies Dance; Dance Umbrella Croydon - Braithwaite Hall.
