Sepia and Crackling (2025)

A new work commissioned by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, unsilencing and evoking female ancestry.

A work rooted in classical Indian rhythms, but using a newly developed movement vocabulary, North uses precision to ignite chaos. Centrifugal and magnetic forces drive these bodies into prescribed circular trajectories, while they compete in an eternal struggle for control, surrender and revolt.

Commissioned by Impermanence Dance for their new work DECADE ONLINE, this is a response to an article from The Tyro (1921), written by Wyndham Lewis. Lewis flirted with socialism, anarchism and early fascism, and wrote about the demarcation of a new era that was beginning after the first world war. 100 years on, another epoch is born.

Poems written alongside and for the micro experiences.

A multi-layered experience of dance, film, sound-making and projection to consider together our desires for both autonomy and community. Four strangers journey together through intimacy, fatigue, play and isolation. They dance through the disorientation that emerges from collective identity, sometimes yielding and sometimes resisting.

Choreography for three films that consider the little actions we do to protect ourselves and our loved ones in a new context. Commissioned by Public Health Liverpool and COoL (Open Culture/Homotopia) and directed by Tom Shennan.

Akademi Heritage (2020)

Two short documentary films using archival materials to unearth the history and politics of South Asian dance in its early years of arriving in the UK.

This research project delves into the experience of disorientation that occurs when individuals are asynchronous with their communities and the systems around them. Our enquiry is multimodal; it happens both inside the studio and outside, with artists and community members.
